“This class has been the a soothing balm for my heart I hardly knew I needed.  Joy has a way of walking into the seams of your heart, gently, tenderly, and in utmost care and giving you tools to courageously begin the mending, the healing of the creative soul once more.  She gives practical steps to walk into healthier rhythms, as well as explosions of heart encouragement and daily steps to walk into these gifting within your own life.  From this class, experience I like to say, I have created some of my favorite images to date, images that stepped out of my normal comfort zone, and yet were the most honest images I have taken thus far.  These images and activities I walked through in the course have changed the way I wake up each morning, they have given new breath to my lungs, new songs to sing, and peaceful rhythms of the heart.  Confidence has grown in my spirit and my work as honest work becomes the most beautiful work.  I would take this course again and again, refreshing my soul with the waters of encouragement, inspiration and photography knowledge from the deepest parts of the soul.  There really is nothing else like it.  Come ready for an experience to crack open the light of your soul, the drippings of creativity you never knew you had and to experience healing in ways you might not even know you needed. I truly could not be more grateful for this course!”

“This course has changed the way I see the world around me, the way I see myself and the way I create. Although I have always felt deeply connected to art, I don’t think I understood the power and possibility of art until taking this course. Through this course I began to realize that the art I create is a gift to my own soul, but also to those I share it with. I have begun to created for a new place in myself, one that understands my images not only tell a story but also heal, inspire, and give hope. I see my life with my wonder and awe then I ever have before. Joy gently takes you on a journey in this course, encouraging you each day to be brave, to go deeper and to see with fresh eyes. I see potential in myself that I never knew was there, and I now feel that I have a new way of being that will stick with me for the rest of my life. This course has done more then just make me a better photographer, it has made me a better human. Because of this experience I feel that I am alive again, and I am so grateful. An unexpected blessing that came from this course was the beautiful community that was formed with the other students who took the course. We shared our hopes and dreams but also our raw struggles, and they were all met with encouragement and love. This course allowed us all to feel seen and carried. It was evident that Joy put her whole heart into this course, and I can truly say it was a completely priceless gift to me.”

“I feel like I am forever changed because of this course. Not just as a photographer, but even more as a person and as a mother. Joy (who is just an AMAZING person!), the lessons, the prompts and the community have all really helped me to see things in a new perspective. I haven’t felt confident to explore photography in a more poetic way before this (I am a photojournalist), but Joy gave us invaluable tools and perspectives - and I feel much more equipped now. I am especially grateful for learning about the healing process that creativity and photography can have. I can’t wait to explore this more for myself and my clients. It gives me such hope and I feel confident, that what we do really does matter and how God can use us photographers to bring beauty, healing and comfort to this world.”

“What an incredible experience this journey has been. I am humbled, changed, forever thankful for the ways this course has changed me. Joy’s wisdom and vulnerability have been a catalyst for courage and beauty in my own work and in my own story; and the love and support of the community that has formed around it has only made me braver. I cannot say enough about this course! It has meant so much more than photography for me. It has meant a new beginning.”

“I had been a participant in a Wildflowers Workshop at Joy’s home a year before I enrolled in the Aperture of the Heart class. I knew I wanted to be a part of a class where Joy curated her favorite material and wisdom and offered it in one place for me to explore on my own time. As it turned out, Aperture of the Heart came along at the end of an excruciatingly long semester in art school where I felt like any gift I had was being tortured to death for grades. School has its place, but what Aperture of the Heart gave me was a deep, soulish reconnection with the reason I ever decided to pick up a camera in the first place. It helped return my joy and purpose in this work. A bonus was being able to build new friendships with women across the world by sharing our stories with one another and marveling at the encouragement it is to simply be seen and heard.”

“How precious this journey has been, this space, these connections, this healing, this growth. This hope, this inspiration. The opening of our hearts. Renewed hope to be vulnerable, and connect deeply. This course has been air for me. To connect around deep things and use creativity has been so precious. Creativity has become like air. And you all have become like family. This journey together has been the best thing I've ever done.”

“This life-changing course Joy created has helped me to see with new perspective the world around me and even look back at my old work with fresh eyes, seeing depth and emotion I hadn’t been able to see before. Joy has created a sacred space where I have forged friendships with beautiful women who embraced me for who I am and who have graciously listened to my heart and to my story. Joy taught me to be truly present and how to soak in new and meaningful moments. She and the other classmates gave me permission to be myself in a safe space which has encouraged more vulnerability in my life. I have found a new confidence to be more open, more courageous, and more transparent in my work and in my life. I’ve truly learned incredible, valuable tools that will help me translate deep meaning into my work for myself and for others. I cannot recommend this course enough! It will open up your world in a brighter, beautiful way, to see the light within that has always been there, and I am forever grateful for this opportunity.”

“My life, my art, my heart, my family has forever been changed by this experience. I am undone and done back up again, better, more fully me, bolder, ready to respond to God's prompting and direction. Signing up for this course was an exercise in faith for me. I was hesitant. I felt unworthy of spending so much time (not to mention money) on myself. But I felt like Joy was speaking directly to me when she would post about it and something in my soul said, "Be brave. Go for it." And this was SO worth every minute spent, every penny spent.”
